Hammerin' Harry 2: Dan the Red Strikes Back

About this game

Daiku no Gen-san 2: Akage no Dan no Gyakushuu, also known internationally as Hammerin' Harry 2: Dan the Red Strikes Back, is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Micronics and published by Irem, released exclusively for Japanese Famicom on October 22, 1993, serving as the direct sequel to Daiku no Gen-san. Dan the Red returns for revenge, kidnapping Gen’s girlfriend and father, working together with Dr. Parallel to seize control of Burameme Town. Gen grabs his giant wooden mallet once again to save his family. It retains the core hammer mechanics from the prequel: melee swings, ground shockwaves and overhead block. A brand-new flying hammer shoot ’em up segment is added. The game contains 8 stages across towns, factories and underground labs. Break crates to collect rice balls for HP recovery and safety helmets for defense. Rescued civilians, such as a pro wrestler, will temporarily assist Gen in combat. It features more enemy types and bosses, higher overall difficulty, and a second loop after beating the game. The cartoon pixel art style remains lighthearted. It is single-player only and never got an official Western release until later reprint collections.

The NES was always two-player — 2P uses the numeric keypad, and NumLock does not matter. No numpad? Rebind 2P to other keys in the 🎮 panel.
