About this game

X-Men vs Street Fighter is a classic 2D crossover arcade fighting game developed by Capcom and released in 1996 on CPS2 hardware. It is the first entry of the Marvel vs Capcom franchise. The game pioneered the 2v2 tag-team battle system. Players select two fighters at the start and can tag in partners anytime during combat; off-screen teammates slowly regenerate health. The roster includes X-Men mutants like Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Magneto, alongside Street Fighter legends Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, M.Bison and Akuma. Both characters share the super gauge. Fill it up to unleash Hyper Combo supers and Cross-Over Combination team attacks. It retains super jumps and air combos with gorgeous pixel visual effects, and Apocalypse serves as the final boss. The original arcade version uses single-round matches. It was later ported to Sega Saturn and PlayStation. The PS port removed real-time tag switching due to hardware limitations. Its fast and wild combat laid the foundation for the whole Marvel vs Capcom series, a landmark crossover fighting game of the 1990s.

Controls

These are the default keys. Every arcade board has a different number of buttons and means different things by them. The rows above are buttons 1–6 on the board: on Neo Geo boards (The King of Fighters and friends) A/B/C/D are buttons 1–4, Metal Slug uses only 1, 2 and 4 (shoot / jump / grenade), and Pac-Man uses none at all. Six-button fighters with three punches and three kicks (Street Fighter II and the like) get a different layout from the core: light punch U, medium punch I, heavy punch Q, light kick J, medium kick K, heavy kick E. Click the gamepad icon 🎮 in the player toolbar, then “Remap keys” to open the emulator’s own control settings (keyboard and gamepad, saved automatically). Gamepads are detected automatically. On phones you get on-screen buttons.
