About this game

Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon is a real-time business simulation game designed by Sid Meier and published by MicroProse for DOS in 1990, the pioneer of transport tycoon genre. Set in the golden age of railway industrial revolution, players act as the founder of a railroad company. Four regions are available: Western USA, Northeastern USA, Britain and Continental Europe. Players lay rails, build stations, purchase historically accurate locomotives, assemble trains and transport passengers, mail and cargo to gain profit. It features stock market mechanics: issue shares, take loans, buy out rival corporations and fight price wars. New locomotive models unlock as years progress. The top-down map has procedurally generated resources each playthrough. It combines logistics scheduling, city growth and financial management, laying the foundation for later transport simulation games.
