About this game

Romance of the Three Kingdoms II (Sangokushi II) is a turn-based historical simulation strategy game developed by Koei, first released for PC-8801 in 1989. It was later ported to DOS, PC98, SFC, Mega Drive and Famicom. It is the second main entry of Koei’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. Players take the role of warlords aiming to unify China split into 41 regions. Game systems cover domestic governance, troop recruitment, diplomacy, stratagems, field battles and sieges, with a roster of 352 unique officers. A new credibility stat affects recruitment, negotiation and officer loyalty. Battle features include officer duels, ambushes, enemy defection and allied reinforcements, alongside zone-of-control mechanics. Custom new ruler creation is supported. Scenarios span the Yellow Turban Rebellion, warlord chaos and the Three Kingdoms era, with special hermits such as Hua Tuo and Sima Hui. Multiple human players may control different lords. It features pixel maps and traditional Chinese style soundtrack, laying core foundations for later titles in the franchise. Note: The arcade game widely called "Sangokushi 2" in China is Capcom’s Warriors of Fate, a different beat'em up game.
