FIFA Soccer 97
About this game
FIFA 97, also named FIFA Soccer 97, is a football simulation game developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports. Released in 1996 for DOS, Windows, PlayStation, Mega Drive and SNES, the Sega Saturn version came in 1997. It is the fourth main entry of the FIFA franchise powered by improved Virtual Stadium engine. For the first time in the series, it uses 3D polygonal player models with motion capture data recorded from David Ginola, replacing the 2D sprites in FIFA 96. Its highlight addition is the 6-a-side indoor football mode alongside traditional outdoor 11v11 matches. Two gameplay styles are available: action arcade mode and realistic simulation mode, with toggleable offside, injury and foul rules. It contains over 4200 licensed players from 12 global leagues. Live match commentary is provided by famous commentators John Motson and Andy Gray. Game modes include friendly matches, leagues, cup tournaments and practice. Player transfer system and interactive instant replays are implemented. The PC and PlayStation versions suffered performance lag. European cover star is David Ginola, while Bebeto appears on Asia-Pacific and American cover art. Modem multiplayer is supported, making it a legendary retro soccer title for DOS and Windows in the 90s.
