Akumanor Gaiden

Akumanor Gaiden v1.1 is a homebrew side-scrolling action platformer for Game Boy, created by Michirin for GBJam12. Version 1.1 is a bugfix update, available as GB ROM and browser playable version. Inspired by Castlevania, the game features Japanese youkai folklore. Players control Sakura, a youkai hunter, who infiltrates the cursed Akumanor Castle to defeat Orochi and protect her village. Sakura fights with a whip and throw limited shurikens for ranged attacks. Enemies may drop health, shuriken ammo or coins. 100 coins grant an extra life. The game contains three stages with a boss at the end of each level. v1.1 fixes bugs and improves hit detection and controls. The Game Boy Color enhanced version adds adjustable difficulty, ranking system and unlockable boss rush mode, plus reworked final boss fight. It uses classic monochrome GB pixel art and retro handheld sound. Single player adventure, a standout Game Boy homebrew title.

These are the default keys. Click the gamepad icon 🎮 in the player toolbar, then “Remap keys” to open the emulator’s own control settings (keyboard and gamepad, saved automatically). Gamepads are detected automatically. On phones you get on-screen buttons.
