Advance Wars

Advance Wars (iQue official name: Land-Sea-Air Great War) is a turn-based tactical strategy game for Game Boy Advance, developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. First released in North America in 2001, it is the first main entry of the Advance Wars series. The story takes place across Cosmo Land. The Orange Star Army is suddenly attacked by the Black Hole Army. Acting as a military advisor, players lead Orange Star and allied nations to repel the invasion. Battles happen on grid maps. Players command land, sea and air units including infantry, tanks, fighters and warships with rock-paper-scissors style unit counters. Capture cities and factories to earn funds and produce new troops. The core CO (Commanding Officer) system gives each commander unique passive traits and a powerful CO Power. Once the power gauge is full, players can trigger effects such as damage boost, unit healing or weather changes. Missions feature fog of war and varied terrain, plus beginner-friendly tutorial stages. Besides the story campaign, it supports GBA link cable multiplayer, skirmish battles and a map editor. With cartoon pixel visuals, it has simple rules but tremendous tactical depth. It is a landmark strategy game on GBA and later remade in Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp for Nintendo Switch.

These are the default keys. Click the gamepad icon 🎮 in the player toolbar, then “Remap keys” to open the emulator’s own control settings (keyboard and gamepad, saved automatically). Gamepads are detected automatically. On phones you get on-screen buttons.
