Submachine 5: The Root

Submachine 5: The Root is a Flash point-and-click puzzle browser game created by Polish indie developer Mateusz Skutnik, released on January 30, 2008. It is the fifth entry of the Submachine series. Continuing the plot of The Lab, the player receives a mission from Murtaugh, teleporting via coordinate 552 to the Root, the very first constructed Submachine facility and origin of the entire Subnet network. Players are tasked to collect three wisdom gems. The primitive machine zones also connect to locations seen in previous games, including the lighthouse and ancient ruins. A new note-taking system is added to record coordinates and symbol clues. Navigate scenes by mouse clicks, collect inventory items, operate valves, code panels and portal terminals to solve mechanical puzzles. After gathering all wisdom gems, travel to corridor coordinate 747 and activate the mover heading for the edge of the network. It retains the hand-sketched art style and desolate lonely sci-fi atmosphere with interconnected maze-like teleport zones. There are five hidden secret collectibles. It greatly expands the series lore and was remastered into Submachine: Legacy collection.
