Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire

Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire, also known as Sangokushi IV, is a landmark turn-based historical strategy game developed by Koei. It first released on PC-98 in 1994 and later ported to DOS, SFC, 3DO, Sega Saturn and PlayStation. It was the first entry in the series with full mouse support, ending the keyboard-only command system of earlier games. The game features a greatly expanded scrollable map with 640×480 256-color graphics. City screens depict walls and gates to enhance siege immersion. A brand-new officer skill system adds 24 unique traits including mastermind, ambush and fire attack. Officer loyalty and recruitment are affected by kinship and compatibility between lords and subordinates. Combat includes field battles and city sieges. Once city gates break, players can choose troop battles or officer duels. Research technology unlocks siege weapons such as rams and catapults. Domestic management covers four core projects: land development, flood control, commerce and technology. Assign officers and allocate funds to grow cities. Historical scenarios span Yellow Turban Rebellion, warlord chaos, Guandu and Chibi. Custom new ruler creation is available and supports hotseat multiplayer for up to 8 players. The Power-Up Kit adds officer editor, treasure system, hypothetical scenarios and a martial duel tournament. Its soundtrack is composed by Jun Nagae. It is one of the most celebrated Three Kingdoms SLG titles on DOS.
