About this game

Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 is a classic side-scrolling arcade run-and-gun game developed by Nazca Corporation and published by SNK in 1996 for the Neo-Geo platform. As the original debut work of the entire Metal Slug franchise, it established the series’ iconic pixel art style, fast-paced shooting rhythm and vehicle combat mechanics. With exquisite hand-drawn pixel graphics and thrilling explosive effects, it set a new benchmark for 90s arcade shooting games and remains a legendary vintage arcade classic. Set in the near-future sci-fi world of 2028, the game features a hardcore military storyline. Players control two classic PF squad protagonists, Marco Rossi and Tarma Roving, to carry out top-secret combat missions. The core objective is to stop General Morden’s rebel army, recapture the stolen SV-001 prototype tank, destroy enemy military facilities and suppress the global coup conspiracy. The game is named after the iconic Super Vehicle-001 (SV-001) tank, the origin of the classic Metal Slug vehicle series. Players can board and drive the exclusive SV-001 combat tank in levels, equipped with heavy armor, main cannon bombardment and machine gun fire. It provides powerful fire support and defensive capabilities, perfectly combining foot combat and vehicle warfare to create diverse and exciting tactical gameplay. As the foundational work of the franchise, it created the core gameplay system adopted by all subsequent sequels, including POW rescue scoring, multi-weapon switching and epic boss battles. Players can pick up classic weapons such as heavy machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers and flame shots, and rescue hostages to gain extra points and bonuses. The game contains six classic progressive levels with diverse battlefield scenarios and spectacular giant end-stage bosses, bringing intense and challenging combat experience. Supporting authentic two-player co-op mode, the game offers excellent team arcade entertainment. With top-tier hand-drawn pixel visuals and immersive sound effects for its era, it delivers pure and thrilling arcade shooting fun. Fully compatible with various arcade emulators, Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 perfectly restores the original gameplay and rhythm, serving as an essential must-play classic for all retro arcade game enthusiasts.

Controls

These are the default keys. Every arcade board has a different number of buttons and means different things by them. The rows above are buttons 1–6 on the board: on Neo Geo boards (The King of Fighters and friends) A/B/C/D are buttons 1–4, Metal Slug uses only 1, 2 and 4 (shoot / jump / grenade), and Pac-Man uses none at all. Six-button fighters with three punches and three kicks (Street Fighter II and the like) get a different layout from the core: light punch U, medium punch I, heavy punch Q, light kick J, medium kick K, heavy kick E. Click the gamepad icon 🎮 in the player toolbar, then “Remap keys” to open the emulator’s own control settings (keyboard and gamepad, saved automatically). Gamepads are detected automatically. On phones you get on-screen buttons.
