Yie Ar Kung-Fu
About this game
Yie Ar Kung‑Fu, widely known as Kung‑Fu, was developed by Konami. First released for arcades in 1985, it was ported to the Famicom / NES the same year. It stands as a landmark early one‑on‑one fighting title heavily inspired by Bruce‑Lee‑style martial‑arts films. On NES, players control protagonist Lee, fighting five distinct martial‑art masters in sequence: staff‑wielding Wang, fire‑ball‑shooting Tao, chain‑swinging Chen, dart‑throwing Lang, and well‑rounded Wu. After defeating all foes, stages loop with increased difficulty. Combining directional inputs with punch and kick buttons enables high‑low punches, sweeps and jumping kicks. Both combatants have separate health bars; deplete the opponent’s gauge for a KO victory. Alternating two‑player mode is available for score competition. Due to Famicom hardware constraints, the home port cuts many characters and backgrounds from the arcade original yet preserves its core combat system. Its innovative health‑bar KO system and unique opponent design laid important groundwork for later fighting‑game franchises. Paired with its iconic looping chiptune soundtrack, it served as many players’ first fighting‑game experience. The full NES build can be played via modern emulators as an essential vintage 8‑bit fighting classic。

The NES was always two-player — 2P uses the numeric keypad, and NumLock does not matter. No numpad? Rebind 2P to other keys in the 🎮 panel.
