Rush'n Attack
About this game
Green Beret, released in North America as Rush'n Attack, is a side-scrolling military action game developed by Konami. It first launched for arcades in 1985, then ported to Famicom/NES in 1987. Together with Contra, Jackal and Salamander, it is known as one of Konami’s "Four Great Titles" on Famicom. Set during the Cold War, players control a Green Beret commando infiltrating enemy military compounds to destroy a nuclear missile silo. The character has no health bar; one hit means instant death. Your default weapon is a combat knife. Special temporary weapons such as pistol, rocket launcher and grenades drop from certain foes. The Famicom port adds two exclusive stages and 2-player simultaneous co-op, bringing the total stage count to six, featuring military camps, harbors, airfields and underground missile bunkers. Enemies include charging infantry, kick soldiers, attack dogs, helicopters and paratroopers. The Japanese version lets players carry leftover weapons between stages, while the US version caps weapons at three and clears inventory after each level. It has tense pacing and iconic chiptune soundtrack, famous for its brutal retro difficulty.

The NES was always two-player — 2P uses the numeric keypad, and NumLock does not matter. No numpad? Rebind 2P to other keys in the 🎮 panel.
