Xuan-Yuan Sword 2

Xuan-Yuan Sword II is a turn-based oriental fantasy RPG developed by DOMO Studio and published by Softstar Entertainment on January 15, 1994 for MS-DOS. It is the second mainline entry in the Xuan-Yuan Sword franchise, debuting the iconic Demon Refining Vessel system and establishing the series’ signature ink-wash art style. The game engine was reused for the spin-off Xuan-Yuan Sword: Dance of the Maple Leaves. Picking up the story from the first game, the protagonist He Ran embarks on a journey with three companions: Yang Kunshuo, Jiang Ruhong and the fox spirit Gu Yuesheng. They travel through mythical locations inspired by ancient Chinese texts such as *Shan Hai Jing*, uncovering the truth behind the ancient war between humans and demons. The Demon Refining Vessel lets players capture monsters during battles, refine them into items or summon them as guardians. Its spell system features five elemental attributes with mutual counter mechanics. The original release is Traditional Chinese for DOS, playable on modern PCs via DOSBox emulator. It laid the core foundation for the whole Xuan-Yuan Sword franchise and stands as a landmark classic Chinese DOS RPG.
