Tekken (Original Arcade) is a 3D fighting game developed and published by Namco, released for arcade on December 9, 1994, powered by the Namco System 11 board, the debut title of the Tekken franchise. It adopts an innovative four-button control scheme, with each button mapped independently to left punch, right punch, left kick and right kick, different from the command logic of other fighting games at that time. Players pick one from eight starting fighters to join The King of Iron Fist Tournament, defeat rivals stage by stage and finally challenge Heihachi Mishima. Matches default to best-of-three rounds, with time limit, Perfect and Double KO rules. Stages are boundless 3D arenas, characters can sidestep freely, equipped with throws, combos and 10-hit combo sequences. It supports single-player arcade mode and 2-player versus battle. As a landmark 3D fighting title of the 1990s, it can be emulated on MAME and later ported to PlayStation, laying the foundational mechanics for the whole Tekken series.
