Sid Meier's Civilization

Sid Meier's Civilization (DOS version) is the original 4X turn-based strategy classic designed by Sid Meier and Bruce Shelley, published by MicroProse for DOS in 1991. Players pick a historical leader and guide their civilization starting in 4000 BC from primitive tribes through multiple eras up to the year 2100. Core gameplay includes map exploration, city founding, resource exploitation, technology research, building world wonders, diplomacy and warfare. Players manage city production, deploy settlers, handle citizen happiness and suppress revolts. The tech tree unlocks new units, buildings and governments from writing and ironworking to nuclear power and space travel. There are three victory paths: conquer all rival civilizations, be the first to build a spaceship reaching Alpha Centauri, or achieve the highest score by the end of the game. The original DOS release uses top-down 2D tile map with EGA 16-color graphics, controlled by mouse and keyboard, with five difficulty levels. It established the core formula of the Civilization franchise and is one of the most influential strategy games ever made.
