Command & Conquer: Red Alert is the iconic real‑time‑strategy game developed by Westwood Studios and released for MS‑DOS in 1996, set as a prequel to the original C&C universe. After Einstein erases Hitler from history via time travel, an alternate timeline unfolds where Soviet Union invades Europe, igniting large‑scale war between the Allied Forces and Soviet Union. Players pick either faction, harvest ore resources, build bases, deploy tanks, infantry, aircraft and naval units through branching single‑player campaigns and IPX LAN multiplayer. It features live‑action cut‑scenes and two official expansion packs *Counterstrike* and *The Aftermath*. Known by retro Chinese players as “Big Red Alert”, this DOS VGA‑based release is one of the most influential vintage RTS games of the 90s。
