Tetris

Tetris (Game Boy), commonly known as Tetris GB, was developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy handheld console in 1989. It is a landmark puzzle game in video game history and was bundled with Game Boy hardware outside Japan, greatly boosting the console’s popularity. Based on Alexey Pajitnov’s original Tetris design, it features seven distinct tetromino shapes falling onto the playfield. Players move and rotate blocks to form complete horizontal lines, which clear and award points. The level rises every 10 cleared lines, accelerating the falling speed. The game ends when stacked blocks reach the top boundary. It includes two single-player modes: Mode A endless challenge and Mode B goal-based challenge. It is the first game supporting the Game Boy link cable for two-player competitive battles. Clearing multiple lines sends garbage lines to disrupt opponents. Accompanied by the iconic Korobeiniki theme tune and simple monochrome pixel graphics, it delivers deep strategic gameplay with easy-to-learn rules. Selling more than 35 million copies worldwide, it defined portable casual gaming. An enhanced color version, Tetris DX, was later released for Game Boy Color.
