Rusty Lake: Roots

Rusty Lake: Roots is the second premium point-and-click psychological horror puzzle adventure developed by Dutch indie studio Rusty Lake, released October 20, 2016 as the sequel to Rusty Lake Hotel. It reveals the tragic multi-generational story of the Vanderboom family and serves as the origin backbone of the entire Rusty Lake universe. The story begins when James Vanderboom inherits an old mansion near Rusty Lake and plants a strange seed in the garden. The game’s level selector is presented as a living family tree. Players travel across decades, controlling different family members and witnessing their births, love, betrayal and demise. It contains 33 chapters set inside a Victorian mansion, garden, basement and laboratory. Players collect, combine items and solve alchemical, symbolic and environmental puzzles. Featuring hand-drawn eerie artwork and original soundtrack for each chapter, fragmented notes and visions unfold the family’s cursed pursuit of immortality through alchemy and blood sacrifice. It has official Simplified Chinese and releases on Steam, macOS, iOS and Android, regarded as the longest and lore-richest title of Rusty Lake series.
