Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition

About this game

Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition (Pocket Monsters Pikachu in Japan) is a classic RPG developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. First released in Japan in 1998, it belongs to Generation 1 of Pokémon series. It is an enhanced edition based on Pokémon Red and Green, closely adapted from the original Pokémon anime. The most iconic feature is that players start the adventure with Pikachu as the starter Pokémon. This Pikachu stays outside the Poké Ball and follows the player on the overworld. You can check Pikachu’s mood and friendship level from the menu, a unique companion system exclusive to this original generation. Set in the Kanto region, players collect eight gym badges, stop Team Rocket’s evil plans, defeat the Elite Four, and aim to become a Pokémon Master. The storyline follows the anime, featuring recurring antagonists Jessie, James and Meowth. Players can obtain all three Kanto starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle through in-game events. It retains core gameplay including Pokémon catching, training, turn-based battles and link cable trading. With slightly improved graphics compared with Red and Green, it remains one of the most nostalgic Pokémon classics for retro gamers.
