The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle

The King of Fighters ’99 arrived on Neo‑Geo arcades in 1999. It closes the Orochi story arc and launches the new NESTS saga. The team format shifts to four‑member squads: three active fighters plus one striker partner who can be summoned for assist attacks, the defining mechanic of this entry. The narrative centres on the NESTS syndicate and its Kyo‑clone conspiracy, introducing new protagonist K‑dash. Emergency‑roll evasion is retained, while special‑move properties are tweaked. Two new power states are added: Counter mode for enhanced offense and Armor mode for improved defence. The final boss is Krizalid. It received Dreamcast and PlayStation ports. The arcade version is emulated on Neo‑Geo platforms and represents a huge turning‑point for KOF story and gameplay.
