Grand Theft Auto DOS is the original GTA developed by DMA Design and released in 1997 for DOS systems, the first entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise. It uses a top-down 2D overhead perspective. Players take the role of a criminal inside open cities, hijack various vehicles and complete gang missions including cargo delivery, assassination and races. Your wanted level rises with crimes committed, triggering relentless police pursuit. Featuring non-linear free-roam gameplay, players can follow mission objectives or create chaos freely across the city. It includes Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City, with multiplayer support. Equipped with pixel graphics and energetic electronic soundtrack, it established the core concept of high-freedom criminal sandbox gameplay for the entire GTA series, a classic DOS sandbox game from the 90s.
